Recognizing an opportunity to further enhance its impact in the field of pain, amplify the program of the Fund, and ensure operational excellence, The Mayday Fund is excited to now grow its staff to include Grants Manager.

Position Summary: The Fund is seeking a highly self-motivated, incredibly organized, and inquisitive Grants Manager. The Grants Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a customized grants database, as well as the administration of ongoing grants in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. The Grants Manager will collaborate with the Executive Director to refine and implement a sophisticated record-keeping system, including the writing of policies and procedures, for the Fund. The Grants Manager will also assist with any operational or administrative functions necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the Fund.

While the core of the position’s responsibilities will be to design and manage a grants database, the Grants Manager will work closely with the Executive Director in making decisions regarding grants and overall operations. Learning the pain field will be a key component of the work, as will representing the Fund at various meetings, site visits, and conferences. The Manager will work directly with grantees as they shape their proposals, and the Board of Directors as those proposals are evaluated. Finally, the Manager will have the opportunity to think creatively about how the Fund supports new science and medical practices regarding pain, as well as discover new grant opportunities and collaborations.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches and proposes a grants management software capable of customization and reporting numerous grants metrics
  • Owns, designs, implements, maintains, tracks, and resolves all matters related to the grants data system
  • Establishes policies and procedures pertaining to the management, security, maintenance, and use of the system
  • Uses the grants data system to create new reports and to generate recurring reports for internal benchmarking and monitoring
  • Collaborates extensively with the Executive Director to create a robust record keeping system for the Fund
  • Assists the Executive Director in the review and assessment of new grant proposals
  • Communicates with current grantees and applicants through periodic reports on grants operation and process
  • Collaborates with financial administrators and Executive Director on the fiscal responsibilies of grant issuance, reporting and grant closing documents
  • Ensures best practices are followed to ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirement
  • Assists the Executive Director with any organizational functions or administrative duties necessary to ensure the Fund operates smoothly
  • Assists in planning and coordinating Board Meetings
  • Visits past, current, and/or potential grant sites, as appropriate with the Executive Director
  • Provides overall support to The Mayday Fund’s grantmaking and operations
  • Represents The Mayday Fund at meetings and conferences as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above
  • Experience managing a grants database; experience with building a customized grants management database is a plus.
  • Experience representing an institution or company like the Fund at public events and closed door negotiations
  • Interest in learning about the complexity of the pain field and a passion for the mission
  • Inquisitive self-starter with strong analytical skills, and superb project management and organizational skills
  • Fine attention to detail and follow-through, flexibility and good judgment, and ability to manage and work on multiple tasks
  • Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, for meetings and conferences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: collegiality, integrity, and strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including facility with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and database software
  • Interest and willingness to be part of a team, including review of the Fund’s website and attendance at the Mayday Fellows Training

Salary and Benefits:

Hybrid work environment with a mix of in-office and remote workdays available. For the first months while the database is being constructed, 4 days per week in the office will be required.  As the system develops, the working relationship will be monitored.
